I know you’re going to love the Six Senses Yao Noi in Phuket. It occupies a natural 24 acre site and is surrounded by tropical forest.

This pick of the luxury hotels in Phuket, Thailand, can be found on Yao Noi, a private island in Phang Nga Bay on the Andaman Sea.

Best for: Luxurious seclusion

I’d recommend Anantara Layan as one of the best hotels in Thailand for those who really want to get away from it all.

A sense of seclusion awaits guests at this luxury resort on the fine white sands of Layan Beach. Believe me when I say that the levels of comfort, luxury and service are exemplary.

Each suite or detached villa provides guests with every amenity they could possibly desire. These include private balconies or gardens, direct beach access and plunge pools or hot tubs.

Best for: Idyllic beachfront location

Another of my favourite hotels in Thailand is The Surin. It can also be found by glorious Pansea Beach and offers a wealth of five star facilities for discerning guests.

There are just over 100 suites and cottages here, each of which features a spacious, comfortable and stylish interior.

Surrounded by swaying coconut palms, you can fully unwind at this resort on Phuket, AKA the Pearl of the Andaman.

The hotel formerly known as The Pansea was one of Phuket’s first. It now counts a sublime spa and a range of appealing restaurants and bars among its impressive facilities.

4. Paresa, Phuket

Address: 49 Moo 6, Layi-nakalay Road Kamala, Kathu District, Phuket 83150, Thailand

Best for: Incredible views

Located on the western side of Phuket is Paresa, a heavenly hideaway on the Andaman Sea coast.

I think it commands one of the best views of all Thailand hotels, as it clings to the side of a cliff overlooking the cerulean ocean. The trees dotted all around give the resort a private, exclusive feel.

A range of villas offering between one and four bedrooms are available. Some feature open-air bathtubs, infinity pools or panoramic ocean views.

Other amenities at Paresa include a spa, Thai and Mediterranean restaurants and cookery classes.

5. COMO Point Yamu, Phuket

Address: 225, Pa Klok, Thalang District, Phuket 83110, Thailand

Best for: Stunning pool villas

Set among the iconic limestone cliffs of Phang Nga Bay, Como Point Yamu is positioned at the very tip of the Cape.

It overlooks the turquoise waters of the Andaman Sea. I love that the colour scheme within reflects the location, with lots of bright white plus blue or aqua accents.

Some of the larger suites here have dedicated dining or lounge areas, or four poster beds.

The resort also has Thai and Italian restaurants, a gym, an infinity pool with incredible views over the bay and a plush spa.

6. The Slate, Phuket

Address: 116 Sakhu, Thalang District, Phuket 83110, Thailand

Best for: Ultra modern design

I think The Slate stands out somewhat from the average Thailand 5 star hotel due to its striking geometric and ultra modern design.

In fact this was inspired by Phuket history, harking back to the days when the island was known for tin mining.

Swaying palms and a sandy lagoon lapped by crystal clear waters add a natural touch. The Slate boasts a gorgeous garden spa plus three pools, including one with a swim-up bar and an infinity pool.

A bar with pool table, a steakhouse and a fusion restaurant help to ensure guests remain entertained and well-fed.

7. Twinpalms, Phuket

Address: 106/46 Moo 3, Surin Beach Road, Choeng Thale, Thalang District, Phuket 83110, Thailand

Best for: A tranquil oasis

I have no doubt that a peaceful, exclusive atmosphere awaits those staying at Twinpalms. As a member of Small Luxury Hotels of the World, this is one of the finest five star hotels in Thailand.

It’s located just a short stroll from the pristine sands of Surin Beach.

Amenities provided in guest accommodation include Nespresso machines, rainfall showers and even wine cellars, which I think is such a unique touch.

Luxurious outdoor space is also supplied in the form of private terraces or balconies. The hotel has several pools and restaurants, a beach club, a wine bar and a smart spa.

8. The Peninsula, Bangkok

Best for: Timeless glamour

The stylish Peninsula has long been one of the most renowned luxury hotels in Bangkok – and I can see why.

It’s positioned on the banks of the river and there are views over the water or the Thai capital from each room.

This large hotel offers some very impressive facilities, including butler service, a complimentary river ferry service, a deluxe spa, a gym and an outdoor pool with three tiers.

There are two bars and three eateries at The Peninsula. Attentive staff can arrange transport by helicopter, limousine or local tuktuk. In my opinion, this is the best hotel in Bangkok.

9. Capella, Bangkok

Best for: An urban oasis

Capella forms part of the upmarket Chao Phraya Estate, which is located by the water in Bangkok.

The hotel shares this area with a plush apartment block and a Four Seasons resort. A range of riverfront rooms are available – I’d recommend the ones which have private plunge pools.

Despite only opening in 2020, Capella has already acquired a formidable reputation. The restaurant has one of the planet’s best chefs at the helm and you can be whisked around town in a sleek Mercedes.

This beautiful property also has a spa, steam room, sauna and even offers guest parking.

10. Rayavadee, Krabi

Address: 214 Ao Nang, อำเภอ เมือง Krabi 81000, Thailand

Best for: A dreamy tropical gardens setting

I love that Rayavadee can only be accessed by boat, and I have no doubt that it’s one of the top luxury hotels in Krabi.

It’s in a breathtaking location, surrounded by lush, tropical gardens dotted with coconut palms and three stunning beaches.

If this hotel doesn’t charm you, I’m sure that the local monkey population will!

Although firmly established, Rayavadee does not rest on its laurels and offers truly outstanding standards of accommodation, dining and amenities.

The natural surroundings of Krabi Marine National Park ensure a sense of place.

While the colonial-style rooms at this eco-friendly resort come equipped with responsible luxuries like organic Thai toiletries.

11. Phulay Bay, Krabi

Address: 111 Moo 3 Nongthalay, Muang Krabi 81180, Thailand

Best for: A stylish spa

Another of the luxury spa hotels in Thailand making waves in Krabi is Phulay Bay.

This beachfront resort offers 24 hour butler service, and some accommodation comes with sea views, plus private gardens, pools or hot tubs.

Phulay Bay has an infinity pool, a stylish spa and a range of bars and restaurants. I really rate this hotel and its facilities.

12. Pimalai Resort & Spa, Koh Lanta

Best for: Beautiful views of the Andaman Sea

The Pimalai Resort & Spa is perched on a hillside overlooking the Andaman Sea. It can only be accessed by private boat.

The range of accommodation comprises rooms, suites and villas with up to three bedrooms. Rooms come with private balconies and suites have their own gardens.

Villas, meanwhile, ramp up the luxury factor by including four poster beds and either a private pool or direct access to the beach – I’m not sure what more you could want?

13. Four Seasons Tented Camp Golden Triangle, Chiang Rai

Address: 499 MOO1 T. Vieng, Chiang Rai, Chiang Saen District, Chiang Rai 57150, Thailand

Best for: Off-grid luxury

The more jungle-like surroundings of northern Thailand offer guests the chance to stay in the Golden Triangle under canvas. It’s camping, but not as you know it.

Think luxury furniture made from real leather and warm wood, air conditioning, claw-foot bathtubs and outdoor decks.

No TV, however – which I think will be music to the ears, perhaps, of those who want a more off-grid feel. A decadent spa, smart cocktail bar and river view pool ensure you are well catered for.

To ensure a sense of harmony with the natural environment, guests can dine in the open air each evening, or set off exploring on the back of an elephant by day.

14. Four Seasons Resort, Chiang Mai

Four Seasons is a name always synonymous with style and luxury, and I know that their Chiang Mai resort in northern Thailand will not disappoint.

With an emphasis on guest wellbeing, this palatial hotel is set among lush green rice paddies and has a tropical feel.

15. 137 Pillars House, Chiang Mai

Best for: 19th-century elegance

Dating from the late 19th century, 137 Pillars House has an illustrious history: it was once the headquarters of the Borneo Company.

As you might expect it leans towards the colonial style-wise, with rich, polished woods within the luxury suites surrounding the original teak wood structure at the centre.

Outside you’ll find a sleek lap pool fringed by vines, pretty gardens, a sumptuous spa and a couple of restaurants.

The hotel also has a gym, a well-stocked library and even a mini museum where you can learn all about its past, which I think is a lovely touch.

16. Four Seasons Resort, Koh Samui

Best for: Luxury laid-back island life

A prime pick among Koh Samui Thailand luxury hotels also comes courtesy of Four Seasons – one of my personal favourite luxury hotel brands.

Their Koh Samui offering is positioned above a private beach overlooking the Gulf of Thailand, with powdery white sands and warm, crystal clear waters.

Each villa has up to five bedrooms and the best of the bunch come with butler service, outdoor showers, private infinity pools and kitchenettes.

The hotel has a kids’ club, infinity pool, tennis courts, a gym and a spa.

17. Melia, Koh Samui

Best for: Sleek design

Occupying a sleek, contemporary building, I think Melia somehow manages to achieve the perfect balance between classic Thai style and modern architecture.

Add the fragrant tropical gardens and Choeng Mon beach into the mix and I’d say you have the recipe for the perfect island break.

I cannot recommend Soneva Kiri highly enough. It’s a luxury hotel located on the relatively undiscovered Koh Kood.

This unspoiled island is abundant in tropical rainforest, and also boasts some of the finest beaches you’ll find anywhere in South East Asia.

Trust me when I say that the range of dining locations is unparalleled. Take your pick from beside a waterfall, in a pod, among the mangroves, on a clifftop, or on the beach.

19. Devasom, Khao Lak

Best for: Luxury boutique hotel

In my opinion, the best of the luxury hotels in Khao Lak is the Devasom. It’s a deluxe, boutique style resort with palatial villas set among three hectares of tropical gardens.

There are various dining options plus saltwater pools to swim in, two bars to relax in and a kids’ club to keep young guests happy.

All rooms come with a private deck or balcony and larger suites include plunge pools or hot tubs. Villas, meanwhile, come with direct access to the beach.

I’d recommend this Thailand hotel for its iconic jaw-dropping sunsets, and there is also a clear blue lagoon for guests to swim in.

20. The Sarojin, Khao Lak

Address: 60 Tambon Kukkak Takua Pa District, Phang-nga 82190, Thailand

Best for: A romantic escape

Seven separate buildings house the accommodation offered at The Sarojin in Khao Lak.

Among the most luxurious hotels in Thailand, the resort has 10 acres of outdoor space for each structure. The soft white sands of the nearby beach stretch for over 10 kilometres.

Only children over 10 years old can stay here, so there’s no chance of your romantic sojourn being interrupted by a screaming toddler or crying baby, which I always appreciate!

Outdoor spa massages by the sea, private dining by a waterfall in the jungle and trips on the hotel’s own Lady Sarojin boat are just a few of the experiences that await.
