Forbes Vietnam recently announced the list “Vietnam’s 40 most valuable brands in 2018” chosen from more than 300, in which FPT is ranked in top 10.

FPT has been named on this list for three consecutive years. The list of 40 most valuable brands is collated and published annually by Forbes Vietnam. The most valuable brands are those earning the largest revenues in the sectors in which these brands dominate.

The Forbes Vietnam’s list shows that the total value of the brands included has increased 50% compared to last year’s list. According to Forbes Vietnam, FPT’s brand value in 2018 is estimated at $169 million. FPT, with a reputed brand and solid partnership with more than 450 global customers, has satisfied specified standards of both market position and potential of stable profitability in the future.

The tech giant’s key business areas include: technology, telecommunications and education, among which software development and Digital Transformation services significantly contribute to FPT’s robust growth. In 2017, the revenue growth rate of Digital Transformation services reached 50%, accounting for 21% of the total revenue of technology unit. In July 2018, FPT has bought majority stake in Intellinet – an US-based consulting firm, affirming its Digital Transformation leadership and increasing revenue in business.

Forbes compiled the list by looking at brands’ incomes before and after tax based on their financial reports and data on the stock market, calculating the brand’s contribution to the company’s business performance.

The other brands in the top ten are the country’s biggest brewery Sabeco, the residential property arm of Vingroup – Vinhomes, one of Vietnam’s big three mobile operators Vinaphone, etc.

HÀ NỘI — Forbes Việt Nam held a ceremony to honour the country’s 40 most valuable brand names in HCM City on Thursday.

The 40 brands have a total value of nearly US$8.1 billion, an increase of about 50 per cent compared to last year’s list.

The surge is attributed to the robust growth of Việt Nam’s stock market, which has driven up the average price-earnings ratio in most sectors.

Nguyễn Bảo Hoàng, chairman of Interactive Media, the commercial representative of Forbes Việt Nam, said there had not been much change in the group structure in the list of the 40 most valuable brands in Việt Nam this year compared with 2017.

Specifically, consumer goods businesses still dominated this year’s list, while those in the finance-banking sector narrowed the gap as more commercial banks listed their shares on the stock market.

Dairy giant Vinamilk maintained its top position, with an estimated brand value of $2.28 billion, much higher than the $1.7 billion last year. The company is followed by military-run telecom firm Viettel with $1.39 billion. State-owned Việt Nam Posts and Telecommunications Group (VNPT) took third position from Vingroup, Việt Nam’s largest real estate company. With a value of $416 million, VNPT appears in the list for the first time.

Other brands in the top ten are the country’s biggest brewery Sabeco ($393 million), Vinhomes, the residential property arm of Vingroup ($384 million), Vinaphone, one of Việt Nam’s big three mobile operators and belonging to VNPT ($308 million), Vingroup ($307.2 million), food and beverage producer Masan Consumer ($238 million), Vietcombank ($177.9 million), and tech giant FPT ($169 million). Vinhomes and Vinaphone are also newcomers on the list.

Vinamilk ranked in first place with a value of $1.52 billion.

The 40 best brands were selected from more than 300 local brands. Foreign brands with products made in Vietnam were also eliminated from the list.

Companies producing consumer goods accounted for 70% of the names in the list, followed by those in the banking and financial sector, with 20% and 10%. The pharmaceutical and aviation transport group made up 5%. The technology and telecommunications group had three representatives.

Vinamilk ranked in first place with a value of $1.52 billion, followed by Viettel, which holds 52% of Vietnam's telecommunication market, with a value of $752 million.

The other positions in the top 10 belong to Vingroup ($279 million), Sabeco ($247 million), FPT ($171 million), Vietinbank ($147 million), Vietcombank ($135 million), Masan Group ($126 million), BIDV ($125 million), and Vietnam Arilines ($78 million).

In the banking and financial sector, besides the three banks in the top 10 brands are other names: MBBank ($61.7 million), Phu Nhuan Jewelry (PNJ - $53 million), Techcombank ($39.7 million), Sacombank ($47.6 million), VPBank ($37.7 million), and ACB ($25.3 million).

There are two brands in the insurance and stock sectors each: Bao Viet (Vietnam Insurance Corporation) ($72.8 million) and PVI ($66.4 million) and SSI ($17.3 million) and HSC ($15.7 million).

Some businesses with strong growth rates in recent years also made the top 40 brands, such as Mobile World ($77 million), Truong Hai Auto (Thaco) ($65.4 million), Vietjet Air ($63.4 million), and VNG ($35.5 million).

In addition to the large and familiar brands which have been listed on the stock market for a long time, this list also has some brands like Minh Long ceramics ($39.5 million), Biti's footwear ($17, 4 million), and Thien Long stationery ($13.5 million).

Notably, most of the valuable brands of Vietnam were established after 1986, ie after the Vietnam economy began to operate under the market mechanism.

Forbes Vietnam used specific financial data to make the list. Therefore some popular brands like Kymdan, Eurowwindow, Novaland, and Tan Hiep Phat were not in the list because of the lack of data.

Similarly, many state-owned enterprises which are in the process of equitisation and without adequate financial figures, were not evaluated.

Some businesses with popular and valuable brands for over 20 years were not taken into account because more than 50% of their capital has been transferred, such as Kinh Do, Vinacafe Bien Hoa, and Vinh Hao Mineral Water.
