1. Cách dùng
Ta dùng else với nghĩa "nữa, khác" và thường thêm sau các từ như somebody, someone, something, somewhere, anybody, everybody, nobody,... hay các từ để hỏi như whatever, whenever,... và little, much. Ví dụ:

Would you like anything else? (Cậu có cần gì nữa không?)

Trong văn phong trang trọng, ta thường dùng else sau all. Ví dụ:

When all else fails, read the instruction. (Khi tất cả đều không được, thì hãy đọc hướng dẫn.)

2. Vị trí
Lưu ý else thường đứng ngay sau từ mà nó bổ nghĩa. Ví dụ:'

What else would you like? (Bạn muốn gì nữa không?)

3. Sở hữu cách
Else có dạng sở hữu cách là else's. Ví dụ:

You're wearing somebody else's coat. (Cậu đang mặc áo khoác người khác đấy.)

4. Chỉ có dạng số ít
Không có cấu trúc số nhiều với else. Ví dụ:

I didn't see any other people. (Tớ không nhìn thấy người nào khác nữa.)

5. Or else
Or else được dùng với nghĩa "nếu không thì, nếu không". Ví dụ:

Let's go, or else we'll miss the train. (Đi thôi, nếu không chúng ta sẽ lỡ tàu đấy.)

You'd better stop hitting my little brother, or else! (Cậu tốt nhất là đừng có mà đánh em trai tớ nữa, nếu không thì đừng trách.)

6. Elsewhere
Elsewhere là hình thức trang trọng cho từ somewhere else. Ví dụ:

If you are not satisfied with my hospitality, go elsewhere. (Nếu bạn không hài lòng với lòng hiếu khách của tôi, thì xin mời đi nơi khác.)

A. Someone/somebody/something, anyone/anybody/anything/ no one/ nobody/nothing, everyone/everybody/everything và những trạng từ somewhere, anywhere, nowhere, everywhere có thể theo sau bởi else (khác):

someone else/somebody else = Some other person.(Người nào khác).

anyone else/anybody else = any other person.

(Bất cứ người nào khác).

No one else/nobody else = no other person, (không ai khác).

everyone else/everybody else = every other person.(mọi người khác.)

Something else = some other thing. (điều gì khác.)

I’m afraid I can’t help you. You’ll have to ask someone else.There isn’t anyone else/There’s no one else to ask. (Tôi e rằng không thể giúp bạn được. Bạn sẽ phải nhờ người khác. Không có ai khác để nhờ cả.)

else dùng với các trạng từ :

Somewhere else = in/at/to some other place (Nơi nào khác.)

Anywhere else = in/at/to any other place.(bất cứ nơi nào khác).

nowhere else = in/at/to no other place. (không nơi nào khác).

B. Someone/somebody, anyone/anybody, no one/nobody else có thể là sở hữu.

I took someone else’s coat. (Tôi đã lấy áo khoác của người nào rồi)

Was anyone else’s luggage opened ? (Hành lý của ai khác đã bị mở không ?)

No one else’s luggage was opened. (Không có hánh lý của ai khác đã bị mở.)
