Should you turn off background apps on PC?

I'm trying to turn off background apps to help performance and battery life, but i don't know which apps to turn off or on. So far, I've turned all of them off. Which apps should I let run in the background? My pc is windows 10.

Unanswerable question really. Only you know which apps you would like to run in background but typically things like email are useful if you want notifications of emails arriving, or calendar popups may be useful, or apps to automatically back up data.

The biggest battery drain is always the display and CPU. Throttle the CPU down and lower the brightness. Make the computer sleep during inactivity. I would be more concerned with what starts up with the computer. I dont have anything set to boot with the system. If I want it i will open it. SSD is also lower power consumption than spinning disks.
