Intel BGA 1090

The Intel Pentium Silver J5005 was a mobile processor with 4 cores, launched in December 2017, at an MSRP of $161. It is part of the Pentium lineup, using the Goldmont Plus architecture with BGA 1090. Pentium Silver J5005 has 4 MB of L2 cache and operates at 1500 MHz by default, but can boost up to 2.8 GHz, depending on the workload. Intel is making the Pentium Silver J5005 on a 14 nm production node, the transistor count is unknown. The multiplier is locked on Pentium Silver J5005, which limits its overclocking potential. With a TDP of 10 W, the Pentium Silver J5005 consumes very little energy. Intel's processor supports DDR4 memory with a dual-channel interface. The highest officially supported memory speed is 2400 MT/s, but with overclocking (and the right memory modules) you can go even higher. For communication with other components in the computer, Pentium Silver J5005 uses a PCI-Express Gen 2 connection. This processor features the UHD Graphics 605 integrated graphics solution. Hardware virtualization is available on the Pentium Silver J5005, which greatly improves virtual machine performance. Additionally, IOMMU virtualization (PCI passthrough) is supported, so that guest virtual machines may directly use host hardware.

Cache Organization

Cache is a hardware component containing a relatively small and extremely fast memory designed to speed up the performance of a CPU by preparing ahead of time the data it needs to read from a relatively slower medium such as main memory.

The organization and amount of cache can have a large impact on the performance, power consumption, die size, and consequently cost of the IC.

Cache is specified by its size, number of sets, associativity, block size, sub-block size, and fetch and write-back policies.
