Australian open 2023 schedule

Visitors of all ages come here to witness their favourite tennis stars in action, the only Grand Slam tennis championship held in the Asia Pacific. Based on prize money, popularity, tradition and world rankings, the Australian Open is considered to be one of the top Grand Slams in the world.

At the start of every year, Melbourne plays host to this famous tournament and draws visitors from all over the world, with most of the main notable matches held at the famous Rod Laver Arena. As the tournament is held in January every year, it’s the first Grand Slam title of the tennis season.

Players will compete for more than $80 million in prize money during their time in Australia, with the AO total prize pool remaining at the 2020 level of $71.5 million. Players exiting in the first round of the AO will take home $100,000, up 15 per cent from 2020. There have also been significant increases in prize money for qualifying and the early rounds.

As this is an elimination event, it is not possible to book a ticket to see a particular player, as the schedule for the next day can only be announced on the night prior. This tournament is a highlight of the nation’s summer sporting event calendar.

There’s plenty to keep families big and small entertained. From interactive experiences to live entertainment, ANZ Tennis Hot Shots, rides and amusements, there’s fun to be had around the clock.

The Beach house is an exciting new destination for friends and family to socialise, eat, drink and play. Whether participating in the health and wellbeing program or enjoying a drink on the sand, there are many ways to soak up beach vibes at this year’s tournament.

Garden Square is the front door to the AO, so sit back and relax in one of the loungers as you watch a match on the big screen and enjoy food and drink from The Deli, Gordon’s Gin Bar and more.

The colour and cuisine of Melbourne’s iconic laneways come to Grand Slam Oval! Check out our Laneway burgers, Hawker Stall, City Italia, Europa Lane and Dumpling Corner. Don’t miss out on out on all the food action that GSO has to offer.

With ten courts in Melbourne Park’s western corner, there is tennis action everywhere you look, plus easy access to food and drink from Pure Blonde Organic Cider Bar, Mabu Mabu Big Esso and Mr Miyagi!

Transport to and from the Australian Open is made easy by the free tram services that run on route 70 from the CBD to Rod Laver Arena and Hisense Arena. All you need to catch the free tram is a valid Australian Open ticket for that day. The service operates until one hour after the end of the play. Trains are also a convenient option with Flinders Street, Jolimont and Richmond Stations all within easy walking distance. From Flinders Street walk past Federation Square via Birrarung Marr along the Yarra River and follow the signs. There is limited car parking available, so those choosing to drive should arrive early.

For the latest match schedule and palyer line-ups, please refer to the official website’s tournament schedule. You can also book tickets through the official website for ground passes and reserved seating for all matches.

The Australian Open is an annual tennis tournament that is held at Melbourne Park in Melbourne, Australia.

Along with Wimbledon, the French Open, and the US Open, it is one of the four grand slam tennis tournaments, with the Australian Open being the first of the four grand slams played each year.

Up until 1987, The tournament was played on grass but since then it has been played on GreenSet, which is an acrylic-topped hard court surface that is also used at the US Open.

The first Aussie Open was held in 1905 and since then it has grown to be the biggest tennis tournament in the southern hemisphere.

How do you Get Tickets to the Australian Open in 2023?

Tickets for the Aussie Open each year usually go on sale on the TicketMaster website sometime in December each year.

The exact date for the release of tickets for the 2023 tournament has not been announced yet.

I would recommend keeping an eye on the official Aussie Open website for details on when the tickets for the 2023 tournament will be available to the public.

Each year, you can buy tickets to one of the main show courts (Rod Laver Arena, Margaret Court Arena, and John Cain Arena (previously Melbourne Arena)) or you can choose to buy a Grounds Pass that will give you access to the smaller courts.

If you want to have a chance of watching some of the bigger names in tennis like Nadal, Federer, or Swiatek play at the Aussie Open then you need to get a Rod Laver Arena ticket as this is where most of the big matches are played.

Where to stay when attending the Australian Open Tennis

Below are a couple of options for hotels close to Melbourne Park.

The Grand Hyatt Melbourne – If you are looking for a luxury option when visiting the tournament then The Grand Hyatt Melbourne is a great option.

The Grand Hyatt is a five-star hotel located on Collins Street and is a short 10-minute walk from Melbourne Park.

Ink Hotel Melbourne Southbank – If you are on a budget, then a good option would be the Ink Hotel Melbourne Southbank which is around a 5-minute drive from Melbourne park.

Tips for First Visitors to the Australian Open

Try and stay in a hotel close to Melbourne Park – There are plenty of hotels near Melbourne Park as it will make your life much easier if your hotel is within walking distance of the park.

Be prepared for the weather – Temperatures in Melbourne can be as high as 79 degrees Fahrenheit (26 degrees Celsius) in January so it is important that you have adequate sunblock and that you reapply when necessary.

Aim to attend the Open in the first week – I would recommend going to the Aussie Open in the first week as if you only have a grounds pass then you still have a good chance of seeing some top players playing in some of the smaller outside courts.

If you purchase a ground pass in the second week of the tournament, then there will be fewer singles matches played on the outside courts.
